Sri Lanka Telecom extends CSR activities to orphanages around the country

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) conducted its latest CSR activity at SOS Children’s Village, Piliyandala, which is home to approximately 150 children. SOS Children’s Village consists of 16 separate houses in which resides approximately 10 children with a ‘mothers’ who look after the children. Employees from all groups of the organization were invited to participate in the programme, and were divided into separate teams, with each team visiting one house. Emphasis was given to fellowshipping and spending time with the children over refreshments, as well as presenting them with small gifts as well as the organizing of special entertainment programmes for the children such as a special magic show. One of the other highlights of the evening was the book distribution programme carried out by SLT in collaboration with Asia Foundation, under SLT’s ongoing CSR theme “Spreading the wealth of knowledge”.

This is just one of a series of CSR programmes of SLT directed at orphanages where the company hopes to be a part of these children’s lives and help to bring hope through relationships and the provision of educational material. Other orphanages that were visited during the year include 3 in the Kegalle District and Isuru Lama Nivasa, Kiribathgoda. More visits have been planned to be carried out before the year closes. Funds for the project were collected from SLT employees who voluntarily contributed their money as well as time towards making this project a success
