Research Scholarships for Blue Carbon Ecosystems

SLT-MOBITEL proudly announces second round of a scholarship program aimed at supporting undergraduate research focused on blue carbon ecosystems! The first round winner Ms. Gayani Dissanayake from Uwa Wellassa University is currently completing her research on salt marsh characterization. Will you be the next to win?
SLT-MOBITEL recognizes the importance of nurturing talent and promoting research in this critical area. The scholarship aims to provide financial support and necessary connectivity requirements to deserving students studying in UGC registered degree programmes at government recognized universities in Sri Lanka. This scholarship program presents a valuable opportunity for aspiring young researchers to make meaningful contributions to the conservation, sustainable use and understanding of blue carbon ecosystems while receiving financial and technical support from a leading telecommunications provider in Sri Lanka.

Scholarship Details

Number of Scholarships Offered: Three (3) any time in a given year.
Value: Each scholarship is worth up to LKR 250,000 or less.
Connectivity Support: SLT -MOBITEL will provide connectivity requirements along with a reasonable data package.
Eligibility: All undergraduate students enrolled in universities registered under UGC are eligible to apply.
Research Theme: Any undergraduate research that focus on biology, ecology, restoration, conservation, wise use or any other related aspect of Blue Carbon Ecosystems and their associated local communities and their livelihoods (no literature reviews, data archiving, directed studies or special assignments which does not fall under a research module, will be considered for this scholarship). The Blue Carbon Ecosystems recognized for this scholarship are mangroves, seagrass and saltmarsh.
Duration: The research project should be completed within the assigned research period of the university. The maximum time allocated is one year.
Submission of proposal: Prepare proposal as per the guidelines given below, and submit via the online portal given. It is essential that guidelines are adhered to as evaluation is solely based on the information provided.
Submission of evidence of completion of research: Research report submissions should adhere to the guidelines provided by the respective university. A copy of the dissertation should be submitted with necessary signatures of supervisors once completed. This will be considered as the proof of completion of research. The financial contribution from SLT-Mobitel should be acknowledged in all publications and in any presentations arising out of research. We appreciate sharing any such scientific communications arising from the research such as abstracts, journal articles etc. which we will also share with other scholars.
You should agree to be included in an alumni of SLTMOBITEL Blue Youth Scientists and share your experiences with future winners as well as participate to events organized for such purposes.

Application Process

Interested students should review the eligibility criteria and ensure their research aligns with the theme of blue carbon ecosystems.

How does it work?

Applicants must submit with their research proposals to SLT -MOBITEL through an online portal according to the guidelines given.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to attend an interview or do a presentation of their research proposals (07 minutes).
A letter confirming supervision by respective academic supervisors should be submitted by the selected applicants during interview/presentation.
Selected candidates will be notified of their scholarship award.
Selected students will enter into an agreement with SLT-Mobitel.
