SLT launches Public Wi-Fi hotspot at Viharamahadevi Park.

Sri Lanka Telecom, the national ICT solutions provider in the country launched its latest Public Wi-Fi hotspot at the popular Viharamahadevi Park, Colombo 07. This Wi-Fi hotspot facilitates internet users with SLT’s ADSL Home Broadband roaming, SLT Pre-paid Wi-Fi access and FREE Wi-Fi options providing visitors to the park with immense freedom to experience easy wireless access to internet, email, social networking sites etc. on their smart devices.

The hotspot was launched at Viharamahadevi Park by Chief Guest, A.J.M. Muzammil, the Mayor of Colombo Municipal Council, in the presence of SLT officials including Chief Regional Officer Chinthaka Wijesooriya ,Chief Marketing Officer, Ajantha Seneviratne, and others.

The public Wi-Fi hotspot at Viharamahadevi Park is the latest addition to the company’s Wi-Fi network that are already live in around the country. Users are able to connect to SLT’s broadband network via various services: free Wi-Fi, by registering at any SLT teleshop, which allows users to gain access to public Wi-Fi hotspots located across the island, providing them with access of up to 100 megabytes per month; ADSL home broadband roaming where users can log on to SLT Wi-Fi hotpots in public locations by using their own internet passwords; or prepaid method where users can purchase a prepaid card and log onto the Wi-Fi hotspot using the prepaid card.

Commenting on the launch, Chinthaka Wijesooriya, Chief Regional Officer of SLT said, “The expansion of our public Wi-Fi hotspots to key locations around the country allows many citizens to experience the benefits of wireless technology providing them with access to all kinds of eServices while they are on the move. With smart devices growing in popularity, it is clear that Wi-Fi will be a key driver of future data-service growth.”

High-speed, affordable broadband connectivity to the Internet is a foundation stone of modern society, offering widely recognized economic and social benefits. SLT commenced the launch of its public Wi-Fi hotspot service powered by “carrier-grade” Wi-Fi technology, which is the Next Generation Wireless Broadband Access technology, last year with the intention of expanding the country’s broadband footprint to empower more citizens in the country with access to a superior broadband experience.
