Sri Lanka Telecom has expanded ADSL coverage into the Mt. Lavinia, Ratmalana, Moratuwa, Maharagama, Kelaniya, Negombo & Kandy areas due to increasing popularity of broadband internet access. ADSL has become synonymous with the new Internet revolution in Sri Lanka within the past year because it facilitates higher speeds for downloading content at an extremely affordable price.

Commenting on the expansion of SLT ADSL coverage, Chief Marketing Officer, Mr. Kapila Chandrasena explained, “The ADSL broadband connectivity which includes packages for both businesses and domestic usage is not only a greatly cost effective communications option but also offers a number of invaluable features essential for the smooth running of ones’ business or domestic usage.”

SLT offers ADSL in two packages. One enables the customer to download data up to 2Mbps and upload data up to 512Kbps. The other enables downloading up to 512 Kbps and uploading up to 128 Kbps. Both affordable and efficient, the ADSL service which Sri Lankan net-surfers and business-users are provided with is now widely sought after and undergoing tremendous growth.

Eliminating the uncertainty of monthly call charges and giving businesses the freedom to access information online for however long they want, SLT’s ADSL packages offer an ‘always-on’ connection to the Internet at speeds of up to 10 times faster than a normal dial-up connection.

With the launch of ADSL in 2002, Sri Lanka gained distinction as the first country in South Asia to provide its customers with timely fast Internet service previously only available in developed nations in Europe, South Korea, Japan, and the United States. Now those operating businesses by e-commerce are able to instantly obtain required data without impediments due to the wider ADSL bandwidth. Other beneficial factors associated with ADSL include the ability for customers to simultaneously browse the net and communicate via telephone. In this way, two services are provided through a mere connection.

Sri Lanka Telecom (www.slt.lk) is one of the country’s most vital utility companies with an annual turnover in excess of Rs.29.5 billion. The group of company has over one million customer base including multinational corporations, large and small corporates, retail and domestic customers.
