SLT Megaline connects 1 million households and businesses.

 

 

In June 2012, SLT Broadband Customer base reached 300,000th milestone.

 

 

SLT group recorded milestone revenue of over Rs. 50 billion during the year 2010.

 

 

i-Sri Lanka project was launched at the end of 2010, enhancing, upgrading and  expanding the fiber network, bringing it closer to our customers through fiber node. This has reduced the length of the copper connections with a resultant significant increase in reliability, quality and broadband data speeds together with several other benefits such as low maintenance costs.

 

 

In November 2010, SLT’s subsidiary Sky Network (Pvt.) Ltd. unveiled Sri Lanka’s first ever WiMax 16e high speed wireless broadband network.

 

 

In October 2010, SLT ADSL Broadband Customer base reached 200,000th mile stone.

 

 

In August 2010, SLT expanded its fibre optic information superhighway to the Northern Peninsula, Sri Lanka

 

 

In March 2010, the new Mission, Vision and updated set of values for SLT was launched.

 

 

The first and largest Data Center in Sri- Lanka, SLT iDC, was commissioned in July 2008. The Core aim of the new Data Centre is to ensure the continuous operation of business critical IT applications within SLT, during a period of disaster or service interruption.

   

SLT’s subsidiary SLT Manpower Solutions (Pvt) Ltd launched its commercial operations on 28th May 2008, with the vision to fulfill the manpower needs of SLT, in addition to offering its expertise to internal entities.

 

 

Following the share trade by NTT in May 2008 and the close of the mandatory offer on 6 June 2008 declared by GTH, the ownership status of SLT shares was as follows:

On 12 May 2008, The Board of SL T has decided to acquire a 75% stake in Sky Network (pvt) Ltd. a company incorporated in Sri Lanka by Lycatel Group, a pan-European prepaid telecom organization, to carry-on operations in Sri Lanka, in order to secure access to their wireless broad band frequency.
   
SLT Internet Data Centre (IDC) was developed whereby back - up of a company’s valuable data into a high security Internet Data Centre (IDC) was made possible.
   
On 16 May 2007, SLT received the BOI status.
   
On 25 April 2007, SLT secured a Media Licence from the Ministry of Mass Media & Information to provide IP-TV services in the country.
   
On 12 December 2006, SLT inaugurated the Dhiraagu - SLT optical fiber submarine cable system between Sri Lanka and the Maldives. At an investment of USD 20 million by Sri Lanka Telecom and Dhiraagu of Maldives, the cable system aims to enhance economic growth via superior telecommunications in South Asia.
   
On 1 December 2006, SLT floated its fully owned subsidiary, SLT Hong Kong Limited, in Hong Kong. SLT Hong Kong Limited, is fully geared to provide services such as IP transit, IPVPN, IPLC and International voice traffic transit services to global telecom operators and corporates in Hong Kong.
   
On Friday, June 09, 2006 SLT signed an agreement with international chipmaker, Intel Corporation to deploy a Co-Marketing program for the new wireless broadband solution, WiMAX.
   
On 24 November 2005, SLT launched SLT Citylink CDMA network in Anuradhapura.
   
In October 2005, SLT expanded SLT Broadband coverage into the Mt. Lavinia, Ratmalana, Moratuwa, Maharagama, Kelaniya, Negombo & Kandy areas.
   
On 26 October 2005, SLT entered into a contract with ZTE Corporation (ZTE) of China. Under this agreement ZTE will provide state -of- the-art CDMA systems for the successful implementation of the largest CDMA network.
   
On 24 October 2005, SLT entered into a strategic partnership with Microsoft Sri Lanka by signing an Enterprise Agreement (EA) to strengthen SLT’s IT infrastructure. Microsoft’s Enterprise Agreement provides volume licenses for medium and large-scale businesses that make an enterprise wide decision to deploy Microsoft products. The EA is Microsoft’s most preferred offering for its corporate clients – ensuring that the enterprise partner receives a host of value added benefits along with genuine Microsoft software.
   
In September 2005, Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd became the first to launch an innovative dual International Direct Dialling (IDD) solution for Mobitel subscribers, where IDD enabled customers have the all important choice of making international calls via the Mobitel network through a high quality service with crystal clear clarity or lower cost alternative with an acceptable level of service quality. This facility – called IDD PREMIER for crystal clear connections and IDD BUDDY for economical connections – allows customers a wider choice in IDD calling.
   
In September 2005, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) of India - the seventh largest telecommunications operator in the world and Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) – Sri Lanka’s premier communications provider – signed a Construction and Maintenance Agreement (C&MA) to build the Bharat – Lanka optical fibre submarine cable between India and Sri Lanka. This submarine cable system will be established between Tuticorine (India) and Mount Lavinia (Sri Lanka).
   
Late September 2005, SLT and Ceylinco Life joined hands to offer a unique Life Insurance policy to SLT customers, called “LifeLine”. It is the only Life Policy, which can be obtained over the phone and is exclusively for SLT phone owners.
   
In August 2005, SLT focuses on Intelligent Business Solutions. SLTs Intelligent Solutions which represent an array of integrated corporate information are on par with international standards. Synergized by the strength of NTT Communications Corporation of Japan and infused with the technological impetus of local expertise, these intelligent solutions can extend a realm of opportunity for a corporate to reach greater heights.
   
In August 2005, Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd launched its 300th GSM base station at Bellungala, Kadugannawa, reaching this milestone in a record 18 months since the inauguration of its GSM network.
   
On 29 August 2005, Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), for the first time in Sri Lanka, launched a web based e-Procurement system facilitating complete automation of the processes enabling ‘paperless’ transactions relating to Procurement of material and services. eTENDER facilitates online transparency and efficiency.
   
On 23 August 2005, SLT received authorization to deploy CDMA [Code Division Multiple Access] technology. CDMA
   
On 24 November 2004, SLT announced successful completion of US$ 100m international bond issue.
