Costs
The Background
Aitken Spence is one of the Sri Lanka's oldest and highly
successful business entities. It has a widely diversified
portfolio of activities that include travel, hotels, freight
forwarding, cargo storage, courier services, printing and
insurance amongst other things.
The Requirement
The group needed to improve efficiency through the centralization
of operations primarily in the areas of reservations, billing,
payment, stocks and supplies, human resource management and
customer relations management.
The Solution
SLT's Frame Relay Network enabled the Group to access a centralised
data base which encompassed all the areas outlined above and
streamlined groups activities and improved efficiency. It
also provided management with extremely accurate accounting
and financial information.
The Group's Head Office is connected to
the SLT network with a 2Mbps line. Other locations such as
the Kandalama Hotel in Dambulla, the Tea Factory Hotel in
Kandapola and Ace Cargo in Biyagama are connected to the Frame
Relay Network using 128Kbps leased lines. In addition to using
this data network for bulk data transfer among the Group's
various locations, the same network has also been used for
corporate voice, which has resulted in securing huge savings
on toll by pass.
